Accomplice: NY

Last Saturday was amazing. It started off a bit rocky…remember a few months ago when that strange man proposed to me on my way to brunch with Atlanta friends Amy & Chris? Well, I was at the same place again, (seriously, their biscuits and gravy are to die for) waiting for Vicky (my supervisor from my Atlanta job) and Dawn (Vicky’s supervisor from her job prior to her last job) – ok does that make any sense? Probably not. Anyways, I was waiting for them at the restaurant bar at noon. Not 9 p.m. So this guy sidles up to me and just starts going on and on about how wonderful I am. He was at least 65 – minimum. He said, “I just can’t believe you’re here. I can’t believe I’m so lucky.” He wanted to buy me a drink, take me to a play… probably marry me. Must be the neighborhood, right?

So that was the only weird part of the day -- well I shouldn’t say the only weird part. Most of the day was weird but in a totally spontaneous, fun, unusual way! Vicky signed us up (plus two of Dawn’s associates from California) for this tour – Accomplice: NY. She’d seen Doogie Howser raving about it on Regis & Kelly so we decided to give it a whirl.

I must underscore that I am giving this tour my highest endorsement! It was just about the most fun you could have on a drizzly Saturday afternoon and the best $50 I’ve spent in a while. I can’t give you any details of the scavenger hunt/mystery show/tour though without spoiling the surprise but I can, however, give you a glimpse into the day’s funtivities using a time-honored literary device – the MadLib.

On Saturday, a mysterious, deep-voiced man called Dawn’s cell phone and said meet me at the place by the place. After taking the most harrowing cab ride ever with Dawn and Vicky, (literally, Vicky laugh-cried on the phone with her husband en route) we arrived at the top secret meeting destination. We waited around a moment, when name the shady occupation found us. He was dressed in a article of clothing and he began to verb our adjective mission.

We were to deliver four nouns to name, but we had to find our way to the main drop-off point first. With the rain spitting on and off, we visited a cool location with items of clothing hanging from the ceiling. We had to solve several puzzles and ended up meeting with a adjective man, a adjective man and a adjective man at various locations. We wandered through NYC neighborhood and had to purchase a noun for number dollars from a adjective man. Then we had to carry it to another location and give it to a adjective man. We were told not to trust anyone, and not to give the mission away, so we were suspicious of everyone we came across. Eventually, after several hours, several miles and several hysterical experiences, we ended up at place where we met name, a occupation. She was once on TV Show. It was there we completed our mission successfully and collected our reward!

I wish I could tell you all about it because it was so much fun, but you’ll just have to trust me! Thanks, Doogie!
