Last week I whimpered and moped about my broken foot, but I’m thrilled to report that it has not affected my ability to do anything and everything I can fit into my schedule. I have to give a shout out to God right now, because this week totally rocked. (except for the Gators effectively ending their season, but I guess I was starting to get greedy with championships.)
On Saturday, Gallery Church held a free fall festival on the Upper West Side for families in the area. Two great things happened as a result of my volunteering to pour apple cider at the festival, 1) one of my church friends went into labor on-site – ok, that had little to do with me being there - and 2) I got a babysitting gig with the cutest little toddler boy with very cool British parents. All in all, it was a serendipitous day.
On Tuesday, I spent 3 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. learning to scuba dive… for work! Next week I’m taking three journalists to the Bahamas for a press trip and we’re all getting certified to dive with one of the best dive masters anywhere. I already know how to clear my mask and breathe out of a regulator and float up and down. I was mighty determined to master the skills and I humbly confess -I’m pretty awesome and I just know I’m going to love diving.
Wednesday night was Bible study as usual and all nine of us made it for once. It was great to see the whole gang together and to start our new church-wide study called CityUprising. It’s all about what it means to be a light in NYC. I’m really looking forward to it! Also, Michelle brought homemade guacamole.
Thursdays are almost always great because it’s the only day of the week that I watch TV – The Office and Grey’s Anatomy. And this week was double the fun, because I got to watch The Office with a super-cute guy. High five!
This afternoon was all about glamour. Glamour magazine, that is. I was photographed for a story in the January issue… I’m not going to spoil what it’s about, you’ll have to buy a copy for that, but it was so much fun! I worked with a stylist to pick out clothes and shoes, had a hair stylist, a makeup artist and a food stylist. I can’t comprehend why I wasn’t born tall and thin so I could model for a living instead of just for fun once in a while, because today was quite possibly one of my top ten days of all time. Roommate Amy came by to help me pick out clothes and take some impromptu snaps – shout out to Amy for always being there when I need her!
Anyhow, there were actually many other things about this week that were great, but I just wanted to bang out some top-line highlights since I haven’t written in a while. When things aren't going quite right, I can look back on weeks like this and remember that I've been abundantly blessed beyond anything I ever deserve. Hats off to a week for the books…
Check out these photos from my shoot…
Trying on outfits
Off to hair and makeup!
Yes, that's my broken foot. No, I'm not wearing the boot. No pain, no gain!
No wonder models and actresses always look so fabulous... stylists!
Two cute dresses - which one will make the magazine?
