New and Improved Teen Angst! Now with Vampires!

Like most other tween/teen/twentysomething gals I know, baby sis RaeRae is currently obsessed with Stephenie Meyer's Twilight. I admit I've yet to read it but for the record I have to say I do not get this whole teen angst vampire obsession that is sweeping America. Since RaeRae has never steered me wrong in the literature department (hello Harry Potter 5, 6 & 7?!), I will give dark and twisty teen bloodsucker fiction a chance during my upcoming Hawaii trip.

For now though, I can't comprehend why even my adult friends are going gaga over Edward Cullen - a teen vampire from a young adult fiction book, who is not in any way a real person. God bless Robert Pattinson, the actor playing him in the movie, for gals I know personally are stalking him all over town. I casually mentioned to RaeRae that the aforementioned pasty fellow (Cedric Diggory from Potter, if you must know) was going to be at Planet Hollywood in Times Square this week and she vehemently demanded that I run to him to take photos. I just laughed, because like I said, I do not give a hoot about frustrated, angsty, fictional vampires. She then got way harsh and declared she would never speak to me again if I didn't stalk Edward Cullen on her behalf.

I love that child but short of significant monetary compensation, nothing else could get me to Times Square in the midst of a tween vampire frenzy, and RaeRae knew that deep down. Ever the trickster, she pretended to be Mom in the following AIM exchange.

The Twilight series is really good. I had the exact same reaction as you did - but Amberly had to read it for class, so I thought I should know what's she's reading. It was surprising to me - funny, thoughtful and totally G rated. I read the entire series in 5 days - couldn't put them down.

Stephanie Meyer's "The Host" is also really good.
