What Have I Gotten Myself Into?

Oops, I did it again. I signed up for something absurd and ridiculous with little thought into how ultimately humiliating it could be. You see, every summer my company Weber Shandwick hosts Agency Idol, a no-holds-barred American Idol-style singing competition. This is no mindless karaoke party - it's hardcore, serious business with a WS staff-populated live band (see image above), costumes and a coveted trophy at stake. Rehearsals have been going on for weeks already, and now that my Eurotrip is behind me, I'm realizing that Judgment Day is fast approaching...

From the Agency Idol Facebook page:
In the summer of 2007, the finest rockers in the agency joined forces with the goal of changing the world - one summer party at a time. With the help of a vast staff talent pool, they put on a show that changed the lives of all who witnessed it. Then they did it again in 2008. And now, in 2009...they are going to do it again. Bigger, better, and also bigger than ever before.

I think maybe I was drugged when I accepted this challenge, because certainly I wouldn't have signed up to do this on my own...right? On July 8, I am scheduled to represent the travel team, just like Stephanie & Rene, the brave Travelville vocalists who've gone before me.

We all know I enjoy a karaoke-fest now and then, but the competition this year is fierce! One contender is seeking the guidance of a famed choreographer for her performance and rumors are rampant about what everyone else will sing and do during their acts. Obviously, any and all style/wardrobe/performance suggestions are welcomed. And if you have leather pants, maybe you could send them my way.
My Agency Idol 3 bio:
As the only “corporate-type” to emerge from a notable line of rockers, Angie Orth is considered the black sheep of her family. With a Southern Rock, honky-tonk legend for a dad and a younger brother who melts faces with his gunfire-fast drumming, Angie was expected to follow in her family’s musical footsteps. Instead, she eluded the spotlight for much of her life and went to college. With a name inspired by classic rock songs and chosen to cement her destiny as a rock heiress (The Rolling Stones’ ‘Angie’ and the Allman Brothers’ ‘Angelene’), it comes as a surprise that this travel guru has waited until now to capture her musical identity.

Despite growing up with an in-home music studio and in dive bars, on tour buses and at biker festivals, Angie’s significant musical performances to date have not elicited the pyrotechnic glory her family name warrants. She performed “I’m Going to Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair” from South Pacific in the Miss Middleburg High School Pageant as her family looked on with what can only be described as white hot shame.

To finally capture her destiny and reclaim her family’s respect, Angie will perform at Agency Idol 3 in an attempt to become the rock goddess she was born to be.

WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO? I'm creating a recurring blog series entitled What Have I Gotten Myself Into, that way when I sign up for Glamour photo shoots, TV & radio dating shows and international blogger contests, I will have a sensible place to sort those tales.

That bio is all kinds of awesome.
