How It All Began

We interrupt this Italy coverage to bring you a vintage photo of Big Apple Angie and little brother Hodgie on their very first visit to NYC circa the late 80s. The photo was taken by our grandma just prior to climbing the 354 stairs to the top of the Statue of Liberty and peeking out from inside her crown... back when you could still do that sort of thing.
Every time I see Lady Liberty, I wonder how my immigrant relatives must have felt when they saw her for the first time upon entering the harbor. I'm assuming they were smiling and excited to be embarking on a new adventure, and probably not grimacing like I was... but let's be honest, it's very likely that Hodgie was doing something disgusting.

NYC had me at "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." It only took one visit to fall in love and about 20 years to pack my bags and move.

Special thanks to Monga for driving us all the way to NYC and for making the first step in a long journey toward living in the Big Apple possible!
